To reiterate, the problem did not exist in 10.2.0.3, it only
occurred after upgrading to 10.2.0.4 (CPU July 15, 2008).
I guess the days of installing Oracle CPUs (critical patch
updates -
"security patches) on a production windows server
without testing
them first are over.
As an aside, the contract DBA that solved the problem said
that he
concluded a while ago that that staying with a
("static") PFile
instead of using a ("dynamic") SPFile is usually
better.
