| Hi all you orca people out there.
I am trying to figure out how to install the more recent distribution of orca that apparently works with firefox. I am getting my directions from the following source:
I am at the section under the header, Bilding and installing. I did the download command previously indicated before this section so I think I need to do the svn build thing. Here is what I actually typed just in case there is something I missed.
Now I guess I am supposed to cd to the resulting directory from the terminal window (everything I have done with this has been in the terminal window I hope that is right) then I need to execute the following commands.
cd trunk ../autogen --prefix=/usr mmake sudo make install
hmmm. Well I don't know how to find the resulting directory so could someone explain this all to a guy who has little to know experience with linux or command line, off list if you prefer. Justin Harford

If that is indeed all you actually typed, yes you are
missing something
<smile>. You need to preface that with svn co
("co" for checkout). Thus
the full command would be:
svn co http://svn.gnome.
org/svn/orca/trunk
Hope this helps!

| Right right I did that too.
strange though, I typed
sudo apt-get install subversion gnome-common
I think the first time, I messed something up because it said that it aborted. Stupidly I went forth and did the next operation
I typed that last line, and it suggested that I type the first one which I did and then it produced a bunch of lines of code that I didn't understand, I did catch that it was installing something, so I think I was right from there. Now I just cannot find the directory that I built or installed to so that I can go onto the next step Justin Harford

What happens when you type cd trunk? Is it not found?
If it's not found, please do the following:
1. At a command prompt type: script
2. Do all of the steps over again:
sudo apt-get build-dep gnome-orca
sudo apt-get install subversion gnome-common
svn co http://svn.gnome.
org/svn/orca/trunk
cd trunk
3. Press control D. That will stop script from running and
you should
find a file called typescript living in your current
directory. It will
contain all of the terminal output and let me see the
commands you typed
and what the result was. Send typescript as an attachment.
We'll get it sorted out.
Thanks!

Hey Justin.
sudo apt-get build-dep gnome-orca
I pressed y when prompted if I would like to go ahead with it. Then after a while of jabbering, it stoped. Then I typed
The fact that you were prompted regarding whether or not you would like to proceed followed by a bunch of jabbering suggests that you may have missed this step the first go around. What happens now when you attempt to check out Orca from svn trunk? If it jabbers a bunch more, then try "cd orca". If that works, keep on keepin'; on with the steps on the wiki. <smile>
