System sounds?

Hello all,

I've installed pulseaudio for the express purpose of getting
system
sounds (or at least a better beep). I've even managed to get
esdcompat
to work, after lots of playing around, but I still get
silence when I
press the "play" button in sound preferences.
Sound tests with
"pulsesink" work fine. What am I doing wrong?

Perhaps the automated device selector is making a bad
choice. Try the
other devices listed until test gives you a steady sine wave
tone. Then
close.
