Hello,
I am wondering what the level of support is in orca for
runnig java applications.
My setup:
Oracle Enterprise linux (kernel 2.6.18-53.1.14.0)
jdk: 1.5.0_15
orca: 2.20.3 (compiled from tarball)
java-access-bridge: 1.6.0 (compiled and symlinked into the
jre as follows:
gnome-access-bridge.jar and JNav.jar symlinked into
/usr/java/jdk1.5.0_15/jre/lib/ext
accessibility.properties symlinked to
/usr/java/jdk1.5.0_15/jre/lib
When I try to run a java application orca says the screen is
inaccessible.

Hi Donald:
Java a11y support on AT-SPI is still a little dicey right
now, but it
is something we're focusing on for GNOME 2.24. If you still
want to
experiment, though, there's more information on the Java
Access Bridge
for GNOME here: http://live.gnome.org
/Orca/JABG
Hope this helps,
Will

Hello,
Java applications are supported by orca, and reasonably
well. The only
thing you haven't mentioned that should be done is the magic
.orbitrc
file. The install instructions say to add the following line
to the
file .orbitrc (which should be in your home directory)
ORBIIOPIPv4=1
Hopefully this will solve it. If not, it must be something
extremely
obvious or much deeper than I want to go.
Also java access bridge 1.6.0 is quite old, you may wish to
upgrade to a
later version (currently 1.22.0.

It would also be useful to have the Java access bridge
distributed as part of
Gnome. I don't know about other distributions, but Debian,
for example,
doesn't package it. Neither do they include Sun's Java
implementation in the
main distribution, but that will change owing to the release
of Java under the
GPL in the OpenJDK project.
I know they're still reimplementing legally encumbered code,
but once that
happens, I would expect distributions to package the JDK and
include it. When
this occurs, I think the access bridge should be provided as
well.

Hi Michael:
You bet - the "orca" component at http://bugzilla.gnome.org
a> is always
open for bugs and enhancement requests.
Thanks!
Will
PS - "always", well...hmm....sometimes
bugzilla.gnome.org can be very slow.

So can I take it from that now would be a good time to
submit some bug
reports. I have found some problems I can report.
