This is likely an instance of the bug I reported this
weekend, bug 327608 "BackgroundWorker: is UI-thread
unsafe!" (ht
tps://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=327608)  In
short, the ReportProgress and RunWorkerCompleted events are
NOT run on the UI-thread -- but instead on an arbitrary
thread-pool thread.
