Hi all, I'm Lyn from Australia. I'm 48 and I've been on Paxil (aropax
here)for maybe 10 years. Who can remember exactly. I have finally
gotten sick of feeling nothing and getting fatter and being forgetful.
All getting worse because of my age as well. (Sorry Gents). I want off
this drug and I'm quite scared after reading all the withdrawal
effects. I was suffering Depression and Anxiety after my second child
was born and after three years of struggle I was put on several
different SSRI's till they settled on Paxil (and Xanax) I think I was
on 40mg early on but was cut back to 20mg which I take at night.(I
don't remember any problems with this) Three days ago I ran out
acidently and being a weekend could not get to a chemist. (I live in a
small village POP, 500 in a country area)Today I got my script filled
and decided to take a half(10mg) I have had no real withdrawal
symptoms so far. I do feel hot but it is nearly 100F today and I'm a
bit vaguer than normal. But I suffer from Atypical Migraine and am on
disability due to this. Many of the symptoms are similar to what is
described in the Paxil withdrawal pages and since it wasn't diagnosed
as migraine for years, it is what I believe caused the anxiety and
depression.
Am I going about this the wrong way? Should I be feeling symptoms
already or will they hit me in a few days. I live so far from town I
need to be able to drive. My Doctor suggested this way of stopping.
Half a pill for two weeks then every second day then stop, but if it
all goes wrong I won't be able to drive my Teens the half hour each
way to work and school, twice a day.

Hey Lyn, been awhile since I've checked this group... Looks like it
is being taking over by spam...

But about your problem. Maybe you will be one of the lucky ones that
can wean themselves off Paxil without being attacked by what feels
like electrical zaps. That and feeling like you have come down with a
bad case of the flu. I wasn't so lucky. I ended up having to slowly
wean myself down (cutting the 10mg in half at one point). It finally
let go when my doc had me finish the tiny amounts of Paxil while
ramping me up on Lexapro. That last time I transitioned with nary an
electrical jolt. And no flu symptoms either.

Good luck. Hope my play by play helped.

Hi Lyn,
I'm not a regular in this group although I have posted from time to
time. I too haven't looked in on the activity here for some
time, most of it appears to be spam. If you'd like to get an in-depth
look into what to expect and how to help you better deal with the
effects of withdrawal off paxil, I would strongly advise you to go to
the following group.
http://health.groups.yahoo.com/group/Withdrawal_and_Recovery/
The experience and wisdom in this group is the best I've ever
seen..loads of advise in the "File" section too. Just log in and
introduce yourself. There's alot of folks who can offer an enormous
amount of help and encouragement. Believe me. These folks pretty
much saved my sons life, helping me get him off that stuff..
Much luck and many Blessings!

Hello, my name is Stacy and I have been paxil free since June. I was on
paxil at a very high dosage for many years and tried many times to get
off it but failed because the withdrawal symptoms got the best of me.

I finally went cold turkey because for me, weening and cold turkey had
the exact same withdrawal symptoms. What got me thru it was the support
from this group and realizing that I would NOT die. I felt like I was
going to die and at times wanted to die during the withdrawal but one
morning I woke up and most of the symptoms were gone. It only went
uphill from there.

Good luck and stay strong. There are a lot of good people here to talk
to.

Stacy
