Paxil and Birth Defects

I have given birth to four healthy children.  I took Paxil during the entire pregnancies with all of them and breastfed them all for over 1 year while taking Paxil.  Having said that, I would not take it again during ANY pregnancy with the new knowledge that we now have. ; I may have just been lucky.

 

I took it during the last trimester with my 2nd born. ; Out of the woods for birth defects, but the "discontinuation" in newborns they talk about is TRUE! ; I thought "oh, I'll be ok, the dr. hasn't mentioned anything and I'll be breastfeeding so she'll still get some", but now that I've gone through the withdrawals myself, I KNOW what she was going through.  She had night sweats for the first few months, she would just drench her blankets...I thought it was weird, but didn't connect it until I went through the same thing myself.  She startled VERY easily, and was VERY irritable.  My mom thought something was wrong with her...looking back, now I know...
