GMan,

As far as I can tell the sound doesn't change when the light
goes out, but I
have a serious hearing problem, especially for high pitched
sounds. It's the
light beside the picture that looks like a can. If it was
the power light,
wouldn't it stay on all the time? Monitor doesn't show any
reading from the
computer, just the no signal.

Jo Ann,
Do any of the internal sounds go away when that light
goes out? I'm
wondering if it's actually the power light instead of a hard
drive activity
indicator. Also, make sure the power cable is reseated in
the back of the
PC, just in case the system just isn't getting enough
juice.

Does the monitor show any part of the BIOS info? Does
it immediately
show the 'no signal' warning or does it wait until the PC is
almost done
supposedly booting?

Peace,
GMan

Jo Ann,
That's why I asked about the sound. If everything goes
quiet or if the
PS fan eventually stops, the PS is strongly suspect. As for
the can light,
that's supposed to be for the hard drive, but it should
flicker along with
hard drive activity, not just tell you that there is a hard
drive. Since
it's not flickering, either the hard drive has a problem or
the light is
connected to the wrong posts on the mainboard (the mainboard
power
indicator, most likely). If you can't hear it yourself, is
there anyone
else there who can confirm that the hard drive is indeed
spinning up when
you first fire up the machine? The sound starts at nothing
and quickly
builds from a low pitched hum to a high pitched whir. There
may be a few
click sounds in there once it's up to speed, as well.

Peace,
GMan
