GMan,

No one else here, but I got out my stethoscope, opened the
case, put it on
the hard drive and turned on power. The hard drive is
spinning up for sure.
About a second or two after it starts, I hear like a beep.
Can't hear any
difference in the sound after the light goes out. PS fan
still running after
5 minutes. I do have another power supply if you think it
would be worth
trying.

Jo Ann,
That's why I asked about the sound. If everything goes
quiet or if the
PS fan eventually stops, the PS is strongly suspect. As for
the can light,
that's supposed to be for the hard drive, but it should
flicker along with
hard drive activity, not just tell you that there is a hard
drive. Since
it's not flickering, either the hard drive has a problem or
the light is
connected to the wrong posts on the mainboard (the mainboard
power
indicator, most likely). If you can't hear it yourself, is
there anyone
else there who can confirm that the hard drive is indeed
spinning up when
you first fire up the machine? The sound starts at nothing
and quickly
builds from a low pitched hum to a high pitched whir. There
may be a few
click sounds in there once it's up to speed, as well.

Peace,
GMan

Wow! Calling Dr. Jo. Calling Dr. Jo. hehe
Babydoll has one of those around here. I should ..., nah,
she would break
my fingers. LOL

That beep is your mainboard's BIOS telling you that
everything checked out
OK. LIAR!!! Is there any chance the computer or any of its
cables were
banged, dropped, soaked, kicked, rolled, folded, spindled or
otherwise
mutilated since the last time you used it? Also, what was
wrong with it
when you brought it home from the garage sale, just in case
it's related to
this?

I'd hate to have you go through switching out PS's only to
find it wasn't
that, so I'll leave that decision up to your ambition level
at this point.

Peace,
GMan
