 GMan,

I'm ready to start trying to figure out this computer again
if you have any
more ideas.

Jo Ann

Good thing I'm not a doctor, I don't have any patience Actually
I bought
the 'scope cause I heard they were good to use for
computers.
Very low probability that it has suffered any abuse lately.
Ok, let me try
to remember what was wrong with it when I got it. It seemed
to me like
someone had tried to fix it and done a lot of things wrong.
The switch on
the back of the power supply was set to 230 instead oif 115.
The drives were
cabled wrong ( hard drive and one CD Rom) Seems like the
wires from the case
might have been loose. If so I probaly didn't get them
right, cause that's
one of the things I'm the worst at. But it has been working
fine till now.
It's really hard to remember since it's been 6 months or so.
I may not reply
to you again tonight, since it's bed time here. If not, will
get back to you
on this tomorrow.

Jo Ann

Wow! Calling Dr. Jo. Calling Dr. Jo. hehe
Babydoll has one of those around here. I should ..., nah,
she would break
my fingers. LOL

That beep is your mainboard's BIOS telling you that
everything checked out
OK. LIAR!!! Is there any chance the computer or any of its
cables were
banged, dropped, soaked, kicked, rolled, folded, spindled or
otherwise
mutilated since the last time you used it? Also, what was
wrong with it
when you brought it home from the garage sale, just in case
it's related to
this?

I'd hate to have you go through switching out PS's only to
find it wasn't
that, so I'll leave that decision up to your ambition level
at this point.

Peace,
GMan

Jo Ann,
I'm getting down to much smaller ideas, so bear with
me.

My next thought is that some video cards require a
separate power cable
from the PS. Can you check and see if yours has a
connector? It would be
on the side edge of the card opposite the metal blade (with
the screw) where
you plug in the monitor. If there is a connector and
there's already a PS
cable running to it, reseat it to ensure good contact.

Oh, and please confirm that you did try a different card
in there. And
that if that second card has the connector above, that it
also was plugged
in.

Peace,
GMan
