Gman,
I will always stand up to folks as they take advantage of so
many folks.
When I find something wrong..and I get the adjustment I
need, I then usually
ask to talk to THAT person's supervisor (although I was too
tired today) and
apprise the supervisor of what I discovered along the way.
I thank them for the adjustment being made for me, but it
should NOT be just
for me or folks willing to complain, That should be the way
it is all the
time.
I told them I appreciate their time and I hope they will
train the employees
at the lower levels in whatever the issue is.
I was really frustrated when the guy told me he hears this
all the time and
he says no and they hang up and go away. He could not
believe I would
pursue it!
As for the heat... I think the fan on the card may have
stopped working and
it died.
I have a liquid cooled PC. The box with the power supply is
all closed up
and my other half had a hard time trying to get it out. I
see NO internal
fans. There is a vent looking mesh on the outside of the
box where the
power supply is. Should that have a fan? Or should it just
let the heat it
generates just go out that vent by itself. As I said, my
case feels cool.
It is running now and when I touch the sides, they are cool,
cooler than
room temp.
MY case is a bit strange looking. Nothing like what Jo Ann
was talking
about.
It is all black. From a side view, there is an opening in
the middle that
goes clear through the case. The DVD & CD drives are in
that top section.
I tell you that so you can picture how high the opening
is.The opening is
about 6-8 inches. On either end of the opening (the inside
of the opening
are vents.)
On the outside back of the cpu is a mesh like vent. And, as
I said, the
back ( JUST above the video card slot is the power supply
with a mesh vent)
I am going to see if I have enough left in the tank to call
Sony and wade my
way through the first line techs to get to someone who will
know if this
computer is suppose to have a fan blowing heat out and if it
is suppose to
be the power supply. Wish me luck.. I may put this off till
Thurs as I am
worn out tonight and have Dr/lab appointments tomorrow and I
am usually
pooped when done with them....
Thanks for following up with me...

Rose,
Most power supplies have two openings. One is inside
the case and can
be a circular hole or vents of various shapes (lots of small
holes, long
narrow slits, etc.). The other is mated to the vent in the
back of the
computer so a fan mounted inside it can force warm air out
of the back of
the case. Since yours came from the factory already water
cooled, they may
have substituted a fanless PS, but that's not a good idea
unless the PS has
some humungous heat sinks to prevent the PS from burning
itself up (yes,
there are such beasts). I'm now wondering if the PS was
installed wrong.
Have you examined it closely to see if there are any
openings in places that
are hard to see, like behind it, on the top or under it? A
PS that expells
warm air will go a LONG way toward getting rid of some of
the heat generated
by the RAM, chipset and Video card (assuming the video card
doesn't already
expell most of it's hot air out the back). Sorry, I just
reread your reply
and see you already took it out of the case, so I know you
know for sure
that it doesn't have any openings.
Since your case is black, you're feeling the paint more
than the metal
when you say it feels cool. If the vent you see near the PS
isn't directly
behind the PS (where the PS would impede airflow to that
vent), I would
definitely suggest adding a fan there. Unless there's also
an unused vent
closer to the CPU and Video card locations. In fact, is
there any way you
can supply me with the model of this case? I'd love to take
a real look at
it to help you better with the fans and such.
Peace,
GMan

There was one sentence I did not understand.
Try the home del office? What is that?
I agree with your sentiments about the call centers. And
probably for the

Where do I find the model number?
The Pc is a Sony Vaio - VGC-RA710G.
usually I just use the RA710G for Sony.
The power supply does line up with the vent in the back.
Right now the side of the case is off and I can hear NOTHING
..and I can
feel a slight breeze coming out of the vents in the section
I said was open
between the top and bottom.
I do not know if the Sony Site has anything on it as it is 2
1/2 yrs old
It is a 3.2 GHz machine with 3 GB ram. (came with 1 GB)
I will ask Jerry, my other half to look for any openings in
the PS. I do
see one hole at the back..and a bunch of wires coming out of
it going down
under the hard drives which are on the front of the case,
It is dark in
here now, but I think the wire go towards the side of the
case..(the one
that is not open...lol!)
I am not sticking my fingers in there.. for fear of messing
up when the
machine is run.
The PS case from the back of the pc to the end of the PS is
almost 7". The
interior width is about 5".
There is a sticker on the side, but I cannot read it. It is
too dark and
the writing is sideways and too small and my eyes are old..
tee hee.
It does say Delta Electronics...like that is a lot of
info...haha!
I will see if we can find some info when we get home from
the Dr/lab tests
tomorrow.
Thanks for this....

Gman...
I downloaded the Tutorial ..thanks for the link...I had
looked at stuff
there..but did not see that.
As for the vents..it is possible the room fan was letting me
a breeze where
those upper vents are...
So, Don't book on my being right about feeling air moving.
I am not going
to put a match there and see if it goes out....lol!
Jerry has put ram in my puter..and he did not take the PS
out. Guess that
is why he was complaining about lack of room.. haha!
He will like seeing this tomorrow
Night !
Thanks again,
Rose

Rose,
Ok, I went there and watched this tutorial on how to
open up the case.
Now that I have seen your case in all it's glory, I can
probably talk more
intelligently about it. LOL
If anyone else decides to watch it, be aware that it takes a
while to load

Ok, the power supply has its own vents that stick out
the back of the
case when it's mounted properly. The tutorial doesn't show
it, but I''m
guessing there's a fan inside the PS on the side that faces
the CPU and
mainboard. If that's true, it's a very efficient design
having the exhaust
right over the CPU and chipset heatsinks. Whether the fan
works or not is
another story. The only way to tell is to plug it in and
turn it on. If it
doesn't work, demand a replacement. The vents just above
the side latch
seem to be for fresh air intake, but you said you felt air
exiting the case
from there. Hard to make a determination from the tutorial
on this.
For future reference, you should check out this link and
then bookmark
it. It's the main page for everything related to your PC.

its another term that folks user to get the forun based call
centers to get
you over to the us based ones
most call centers have us based ones there the home dell
offices or the home
offices etc.
a little trick a us call center told me to do if I ever get
the india one or
other forun based call centers
it may or may not work but its worth a try when you get one
of those.
as far as one of my reasons there taking jobs away from the
us, and also
jobs that people with disabilities could do quite easily
still ircs me that
we have to have forun based call centers
