You're welcome. The key to 1 stick or 2 is to
know how many banks of slots
you have. 2 banks of 1 slot each means 1 stick
at a time. 1 bank of 2
slots means 2 sticks at a time. You must fill
the entire bank.

There are 2 separate banks of 2 each. I just wanted to make
sure of
what I needed before I ordered it. Thanks again for your
knowledge.

Tricia,
Just so you know, WinXP can only handle up to 3GB of
RAM. It's not a
problem if you're thinking about adding 2 more sticks of
512MB or 1GB each,
but you won't be able to go any higher than that.
Also, your mainboard is designed for dual-channel memory
access. That
means it runs much better when a bank is filled with two
matching sticks.
Matching sticks are two identical sticks that have been
tested at the
factory for rating compatability and are sold in a single
package showing
that they are a matched set. When you go shopping, be sure
to insist on a
matched pair. :O)
Peace,
GMan

How would I make sure that they are matched? Yes, I knew
about the
limitation of 3 gb of ram. I already have 1 gig, was
planning on
adding two 1 gig sticks, for a total of 3 gigs. Thanks

GMan,
I think there's more to explain on the RAM issue. You're
right when you say there is a limit on RAM in Win XP but you
have to go further. WinXP 32 bit has a limit of 2 gig
unless you fiddle with the boot ini....then you can get 3
Gig. Win XP Pro is a 64 bit system and doesn't have the
limit. I run 4 Gig on my main computer in Cincinnati.

I was trying to keep it uncomplicated, but you're right.
Since you brought
it up, how do you feel about explaining it? I've got about
a thousand more
messages to go through. lol

Nope - can't sing, unless I am in the shower, and can't play
a
musical instrument either! You mentioned fiddling with the
bios and I
just wanted to know how much fiddling I would have to do.
lol Thanks

Not much to add to it GMan, the difference is determined by
which version of Win XP you use. Win XP Home is a native 32
bit architecture, and Win XP Pro is a 64 bit. Win XP Home
has the limitation on RAM - it's limited to 2 Gig. There is
a work-around that will allow you to use a third Gig by
changing the bios. I have no experience actually doing it
so I can't speak to the actual process. Win XP Pro, being a
64 bit architecture has no limitation -- 4 Gig works just
fine right out of the box.
