Acronis will work on all of them.
As stated, you're going to get a slew of positives and
negatives on each brand.
Now... you said external drive. When you say EXTERNAL,
you're dealing with the brand of the drive INSIDE and the
brand of the encasement OUTSIDE. With that said, you don't
always know the brand of the drive inside.
All my external drives, except the one that I carry around
in my bag for computer jobs, are self-built externals. I buy
the, usually cheaper, internal drive, and I combine it with
a good external HD encasement. If you ever opt for that, I
use and like the AMS Venus DS3 enclosures. These are
excellent enclosures.
For the external that I have that I use on computer jobs, I
have an 80GB Acomdata. None of my externals have failed me
yet... though, like life itself, eventually, they all go (or
at least the drive does).
One suggestion I can make is to read the reviews from actual
people who have bought the product you may be looking at. I
use Newegg.com for that. You usually have a ton of reviews
on products... all from real people. Just drop the worst
review and the best review.
Hope this helps.
