GMan,
I've come to the same conclusion, but not sure what is safe
to turn off to
test it. What do you think is the most likely culprit? The
only thing I'm
running right now is Avast, Firefox, and Incredimail.
Jo Ann,
Since it's affecting all of your stuff, I have to wonder
if it's not
some firewall, anti-malware or ad remover setting somewhere.
That could
also explain why it would survive a Windows reinstall.
Peace,
GMan

None of those are firewalls, anti-malware or ad removers.
Got any of those
running?

I had several running before, but nothing on this new
install except
Windows firewall is on. Avast does have a network shield,
P2P shield,
standard shield and a web shield. Guess I'll have to start
trying these.
But I've run Avast for a year now, and didn't have these
problems till
last week.

That would be where I'd start, too. Did you wipe the drive
before
reinstalling Windows or did you go over the old install?

Wiped it.The only way to go IMO. It's a large drive with
four partitions
and I wiped the C part. The only thing on the other sections
is music
and pictures. Would it be wise to put downloaded programs
somewhere
besides the C drive this time?

Good. Only good way to go.
Downloaded apps (before installing them) or installed
Program Files? I'm
not sure to which you're referring. I keep nearly
everything off the C
drive. Documents, Favorites, Swapfile, Temporary Internet
Files, self
installed Program Files, music, other multimedia files,
personal web sites,
FTP files, Games, etc.. I even store a copy of my Windows
Install disk on a
separate partition andthen tell Windows registry where it is
for future
reference.
Did you find anything that could cause these problems in
your Avast
settings?
Peace,
GMan
