Why is it that a computer refuses to go beyond a certin
point in defrag?? Mine stops at 27% and says not all the
computer files could be defraged. Never had that happen
before..I turned off everything that could use up something
but I still get this notice. It needs to defrag but won't.
spt.

how much free space is on your hard drive? if you don't have
enough, it can stop. Also helps to defrag in safe mode while
nothing is running in the background.

I did it in safe mode and had the same problem...I used to
have the same
problem when I scanned disk but I turned off everything
running in systray
and scan went thru fine.. The hard drive is 7/8 empty...has
a LONG way to go
to be even 1/4 full. I don't know what else to turn off?

I had trouble getting scan disk and defrag to complete a few
weeks ago. I
had to change my connection option in OE to never connect,
disable my
automatic updates for weather pulse, and disable Norton. I
know weather
pulse dials up to do the automatic updates and I suspect
that Norton does
too. That worked for me.

Well, shucks! Maybe the idea of finding a little program
that just defrags
would work. Sorry you are having so much trouble with it.

The little program that Mike suggested works very well. I
have Norton's on this computer, but since it won't work on a
Vista computer I downloaded the defrag program and tried it
-- it's just fine! .....and free too <G>
