     I used to have one. It didn't make any unusual sounds
ever. But it did 
start to lose it's alignment. It would print at an angle
from top left to 
bottom right. I now have a 7210 (I think). I'm out of town
looking at homes.

I had one for a little while before this one that was a
different model number - it ended up going to college with
my daughter. Much quieter. 
Same surface - 
I'm going to remove some of the dust around it <wink>
and maybe it will be happier!! but seriously - maybe it got
moved on the desk and that is why it sounds louder!

I would say so.. mine sounds different( muffled) sitting on
carpeted desk top than sitting on a veneer table top.
