| -=PCTechTalk=- question - uninstall
norton anti-virus only |
  United States |
2008-03-02 11:10:25 |
I am looking in my add/remove programs.
I see my norton go-back and system works 2005.
I want to just uninstall the anti-virus.
Do I need to uninstall all of system works? I don't see
anything for just anti-virus in the list.

Cris,
Use the one that's there. When it comes up, it will
give you the option
to just remove individual components, one of which will be
the AV. :O)

weird too - since norton is expired, I put on the trial of
NOD32. It was recomended to me by my son. it went on fine.
This morning I come downstairs and norton is still trying to
scan from it's normal 1am scan! and acting like it is still
working. I guess that part must work - but you can't update
it anymore. hmmm. anyway - I haven't tried to uninstall it
yet.

well - it gave me options, but it said 'install' instead of
'uninstall'.
I still chose norton anti-virus.
can't say anything changed at all!! it all seems to still be
there.

Cris,
Ouch! Just because Norton is expired, doesn't mean it
isn't still
running. I'm surprised you haven't been screaming about the
two of them not
playing nice together. No two AV program should ever be
installed directly
on the same system at the same time. The only exception to
this should be
online scans. This is why Nortons couldn't scan properly.
:O)
Nortons does indeed still work and will continue to work
until it's been
uninstalled or otherwise removed from your system (as in a
reformat or hard
drive replacement). It just won't update itself with new
definition files
automatically. You can still go to the Symantec site,
manually download and
then install them. If needed by anyone reading this, go to
the site below
and then bookmark it yourself.

Cris,
Sorry. I should have specified that the option window
asks what you'd
like to have installed. UNchecking the AV will tell it to
uninstall the AV
portion. If you accidentally told it to get rid of other
parts you really
wanted to keep, you'll need to recheck those parts. It may
ask you for the
install disk to complete the "uninstall AV/reinstall
others" procedures.
Peace,
GMan
