Any 3+GHz Compaq or Emachine with at least 1GB of
RAM and Vista Home Premium
should do the job and can be had in a bundle with
17" or 19" flat panel
monitor for about $698 or less and without a
monitor for about $398 or less.
Laptops can be had from as low as $598.
Single/dual core and 32/64 bit are the main price
drivers. Prices like Gman
mentioned are available at Wal-mart.com or at
many Wal-Mart stores if you
don't like mailorder or want instant
gratification.
A similar computer with XP MCE, either new (if
you can find one) or used
should run even less.
Disclaimer: Similar packages and prices can
probably be had online or at
other stores. I just happen to be biased
towards(and knowledgeable about)
Wal-Mart since I work there in the Electronics
Department.
Remember to include shipping/handling and in many
cases sales tax when
comparing mailorder prices. Any company with a
"presence" in your state
must collect your state sales tax.
