Thanks for the welcome back & turning us back on !
<G>

I lurk quite often as I am not a pc pro (G)

but will compile my error messages so I can give a good
account of what has
been happening since switching to dsl....

I do have the crummy ol' ME program... and the same ol pc...
but I haven't
been able to upgrade to anything newer than OE 5... I wonder
if that is some
of the problem ( most appear when I run OE & IE
together) the most of the
time it is an msimn error & shuts down to desk top...

cheers,
Faythe

Faythe,
We LOVE our lurkers! (as long as they don't go
vacationing for more than
a couple of years. lol) This group was originally
designed to be as
much a learning list as a place to get help when it's your
own PC giving you
the headaches.

So, can you tell us what happens when you try to upgrade
to IE6 (which
also includes OE6)? I have a suspicion that your DSL woes
are also
connected to that issue.

Peace,
GMan

-=PCTechTalk=- Reboot problem

>Hi everyone

I am having a problem wherein my computer is rebooting
overnight,
without my knowledge or consent! This has occurred the last
2 nights
and there is nothing new added - either hardware or
software. How can
I get to the source of why this is happening?

Thanks

Tricia

Tricia,
You can always stay up real late one night and try using
M&Ms to draw
the alien out of the closet. I think the peanut version is
their favorite
(or at least I saw that once on TV). If that doesn't work
for you, we'll
have to resort to some troubleshooting, instead.        ;O}

I'll need to know some info. Specifically, what version
Operating
System are you running and what software is running
overnight? Also, is the
machine online during the night?

Peace,
GMan

I did try to stay up late, but my meds kick my butt! lol

Darryl gave me the suggestion of the event viewer, which
revealed
that the automatic updates are installing and then the pc
reboots. I
have Win XP Pro with SP2. The only things running at night
are my
e-mail program and usually Pando, downloading stuff! lol And
yes,
this machine is on 24/7.
