As per Microsoft's web site, if you use Windows Vista or
have Automatic =
Updates turned on, you may not be affected by the change in
daylight =
savings time. I believe this is because the patch comes
through Windows =
updates. I'm running XP Home and I think mine came through
when I OK'd =
the updates when XP notified me that there were updates. If
you're =
uncertain and want to confirm, go to:

http://support
.microsoft.com/gp/cp_dst

...select Home User and select your operating system. This
is for =
Vista, XP (all flavors), and 2000 Professional. =20

If you think you may be patched but want to make sure,
download the Time =
Zone Edit tool (TZEdit.exe) for Windows XP and 2000 here:

http://download.microsoft.com/download
/5/8/a/58a208b7-7dc7-4bc7-8357-28e2=
9cdac52f/tzedit.exe

When you click on this file to run, it will unpack two files
into a =
folder named TZEdit under C:Program Files. Run TZEdit.exe
and it will =
open and show your current time zone settings. Underneath
the time zone =
settings window you will see what your current time zone
Daylight =
Savings Time is set to. If you are patched it will be set
for the =
Second Sunday in March and the First Sunday in November. If
it is not =
patched it will be set for a Sunday in April and the LAST
SUNDAY in =
October.

Keep in mind that the Time Zone that you update with TZEdit
is the only =
zone updated. Also know that there are two Registry keys
that store =
Time Zone information. If I understand this correctly, only
one of =
those keys is updated by changing the Time Zone settings
with TZEdit. =
In order to change the information in both Registry keys,
you have to =
Cancel out of TZEdit after changing times, then open your
Date and Time =
settings by opening the Date and Time component in the
Control Panel, =
click the Time Zone tab, change the time zone to any other
time zone and =
click the Apply button, then change it back to your own
local time zone =
and click the Apply button. =20

You can verify your new settings by changing the date and
time to =
Sunday, March 11th at 1:59am, waiting one minute for it to
change to =
2:00, and see if the "your computer has been updated to
Daylight Savings =
Time...." message pops up, then change your date and
time back to =
current.

OK, that takes care of Vista, XP, and 2000. If you are
running Windows =
98 or ME, you will not receive an automatic update because
Microsoft no =
longer supports these products. You MUST edit your time
zone with =
TZEdit, but NOT the one at the above link. That one is for
XP and 2000 =
only. You can find TZEdit for Windows 98 and ME from the
Resource Kit =
folder on your Windows 98 or Windows ME disk, or you can
download it. =
You will find complete instructions and the link to the
Microsoft ftp =
site to download TZEdit.exe for Windows 98 and Me at:

http://groups.google.com/group/microso
ft.public.win98.gen_discussion/msg/=
1c7500d85821d260?hl=3Den&

If the entire link above is not colored blue, copy and paste
it into =
your browser. When you click on the ftp website link, you
will probably =
have to wait a minute for the site to pop up. You need
TZEDIT.EXE - the =
second to last one on the list. It's a 41.0kb application
file dated =
4/3/1998. I'm not sure if you also have to have the one
right before =
it, TZEDIT.CNT, 254 bytes, dated 4/2/1998, but I downloaded
it also just =
in case. Right click and select "copy to folder"
to save. I ran it on =
two spare Windows 98SE computers in my home and it worked
fine. They'll =
both fit on a floppy. Or you can burn them to a CD, or you
can copy =
them to a flash/thumb/pin drive and access it through a USB
port. =20

Hope this helps! : )
