Hi Judith,
You wrote ".....Next time I will do a system
restore...." so I am going to assume that you know how
to get into System Restore.
OK, go to System Restore and select the option
"Restore my computer to an earlier date" and hit
hit the "next" button at the bottom of the
window.
You will now be transported to another window
containing a calendar on which (hopefully) some on the
dates are in bold type. These emboldened dates are
the ONLY dates that contain system restore points, so
select the one you want (remember you will not lose
any data files by doing this, it only restores certain
system files back to the date you selected).
Having said that, I am unsure but I think that you
would lose any Microsoft security patches that had
been applied after the date you select. Perhaps
someone can chip in here and verify that, please. If
this is the case you would need to re-apply the
missing patches, which is no big or difficult deal!
The rest is self explanatory, but don't be alarmed
when your system closes down, as this is part of the
restore process.
When it is completed you will receive a message that
advises you whether the system restore was successful
or not. If not try another point.
If you are successful, the next time you enter System
Restore you will notice another option...to undo the
system restore point you made.
Hope this makes sense to you, and good luck,
John Lehn
