OK, great! I'll be going over there sometime tomorrow, so I
will help her
make the start up disk. Back when I did this more often on
several W98 pcs,
that was how I remember we did the reformat and reinstall.
Putting in both
and rebooting.

I now remember that on the W98 First Edition PC that I had,
the tech support
person had to walk me through adding a file to a start up
floppy that was
needed for W98 FE, in order to start the process. Apparently
W98 SE had this
file on the start up discs, but not the FE. I had forgotten
all about that.

Sammi,
Don't worry about the exact wording on those other
disks. This will be
easy to fix since she has that full Win98 install CD. Since
Troth and I are
taking you in the same direction (I know him that well.
lol), I'm going to
let him finish the details for you.

In the meantime, ask your friend to create a new Win98
startup disk
(Start > Settings > Control Panel and then click on
the Startup tab and
follow the directions). She will need that floppy for the
directions Troth
will be posting. If she already has one, have her make a
new one anyway,
just in case the old one has developed any corrupted files
since it was
made. :O)

Peace,
GMan

They have 3 CDs. One

something similar...I

Printed on it says 'will

really should have

Sammi,
And now you also know the direction we're headed.
LOL

I add several files to the Win98SE startup floppies I
make to make it a
Super Startup disk. It allows me to do a lot more once I
startup a hurting
system. If you're interested in adding all of the extra
files I use, the
complete list is below. Only add the files that are not
already there and
always be sure to use a brand new floppy disk. There can be
no bad areas or
there won't be enough room for all of these files.

| ASPI2DOS.SYS

| ASPI4DOS.SYS

| ASPI8DOS.SYS

| ASPI8U2.SYS

| ASPICD.SYS

| ATTRIB.EXE

| AUTOEXEC.BAT

| BTCDROM.SYS

| BTDOSM.SYS

| COMMAND.COM

| CONFIG.SYS

| DELTREE.EXE

| DOSKEY.COM

| DRVSPACE.BIN

| EBD.CAB

| EBD.SYS

| EXTRACT.EXE

| FDISK.EXE

| FINDRAMD.EXE

| FLASHPT.SYS

| HIMEM.SYS

| IO.SYS

| MOVE.EXE

| MSDOS.SYS

| OAKCDROM.SYS

| RAMDRIVE.SYS

| README.TXT

| SCANDISK.EXE

| SETRAMD.BAT

| XCOPY.EXE

In any case, the way to get around the Scandisk issue is
to tell the
Windows Install to not run it. This is done with switches
added to the
initial Setup command. If I recall correctly, the command I
always use is
below. If Troth modifies it, follow his instead.
:O)

SETUP /IE /IS /IV

Peace,
