If you're concerned of corrupted system files, you can run
the System File Checker to repair and/or replace any bad
files.
You'll need the original install CD.

Go to START > RUN > type CMD and press [ENTER]

Now you'll be in command line window.

At the waiting prompt, type:

SFC /SCANNOW

and hit [ENTER]

That should fix any bad files you may have.
