Hi Harold,
You have compatibility mode backwards. What you are doing
is telling WinXP
to emulate another operating system, e.g. Win95, Win98, when
running a
particular application. So you want WinXP to act like Win95
when you run
Notepad+. That's why there is no option for WinXP. You
are already running
WinXP.
Ben Moore
Now you say (third paragraph above) that there is no line
for XP. So why
would I be going to the Compatibility tab if I can't make
Notepad+
compatible with XP? I'm sure I'm reading it wrong, and
it's a moot point now
because "open with" made it work. So I thank
Clint for this round of private
tutoring, for reminding me of Metapad and calling
"compatibility mode" to my
attention. I always thank Hugh for his idea of the
"1st Page" editor
(someday I'll learn how to use it), and thanks to PCWorks
for making all
this learning possible. --- Happy ending
