Problem solved; I went to "System Restore" and
brought the computer back to 
an earlier restore point. I'd still like to know more about
that "User 
Accounts" link in Control Panel. So far it seems that
"Compaq_Owner" is the 
only name that works. Maybe I'll leave well enough alone
and just use my 
real name to sign checks  --- Harold
