This is a friends laptop that I am trying to save. How do
you get
started fixing a laptop when you can not get on line,
everything is very
slow, and we have run Spybot, Ad-Awhere and removed all that
was found.
Also ran Norton anti-even tho it has not been updated since
2005. Only
error that come up is a ghymf.exe file this can not run and
it continues
to try to connect to the internet even tho I have set it to
never dial a
connection. It says web page not available. When you try to
click on the
X to make these things go away they just keep coming back. I
also have a
lot of trouble getting the Ctrl-Alt-delete to work so I can
close some
of these items.
I just can't seem to nail anything down as a starting
point. Any
suggestions?
Thanks

Start it in Safe Mode and run Spybot and Ad Aware again.
Get rid of Norton and install AVG Free. Norton is possibly
the cause of
this problem.
