All right, Peter and Clint now brought home the point. First
I'm glad nobody
was insulted by my badgering and am sorry I put Clint
through the job of
searching the archives for the vulnerabilities links
(thanks, Clint). I
really think these reports are for the more savvy members of
the group and
there'll be no more vulnerability emails from me. Strangely
enough, and I
hope I'm not inviting "the evil eye," I still
have ICQ from an earlier
interest, because of grandkids I have AIM, and now MSN
Messenger - all with
no patches that I'm aware of.
Here I'm surrounded by these potential vulnerabilities and,
at least, from
what I see, nothing untoward ever happened. Clint's humor,
"ignorance is
bliss," maybe he's right and problems are all around
me but I don't
recognize them. Maybe the computer should be doing more for
me (sweep the
floor, dust the furniture, wash windows) and I'm missing
those advantages.
Joking aside, with all these vulnerabilities, fact is the
sky is not falling
down and until I see cracks up there, I'll leave things the
way they are.
What has worked remarkably well (for me), is the removal of
70 to 80
different files and programs that the computer apparently
doesn't need.
Taking all that unnecessary baggage out of the system has
made a relatively
new computer even newer. Anyone needing a list of those
files/folder,
contact me offline.
I'm currently wondering about this folder (repeating an
earlier email) in my
Windows directory called "RegisteredPackages"
... 54 MB and inside are 20
folders with long numbered names. I don't know what this
folder is for, even
after googling it, and I find different opinions regarding
delete or no
delete. Right now I have that folder in a "Hold"
folder that I keep on the
desktop (waiting to see what happens). Everything is working
fine on the
computer so what do the PCWorks members know about
"Registered
Packages"? --- Harold
