One of the best things about windows is that the user
experience is
highly customizable.
One of the worst things about windows is that the user
experience is
highly customizable.
Two thing drive me nuts when I see them:
Full inboxes and desktops with so many files that the
desktop itself is
invisible.
People use their computers in different ways. If you create
a lot of
docs, especially correspondence of one kind or another, the
My Docs
folder is a life saver. It's the default folder for most
programs that
create files (including Music and video) and helps people
keep their
stuff organized. It's also automatically included in every
backup
program I've ever seen. There was a time when I created
folders on the
root drive, as you seem to do, but I've become a believer in
My Docs
over the years. Take a look at the default folder tasks in
My Docs
(Rename, move, copy, etc). These are not available in
folders you
create. All these tasks can be performed, of course, but My
Docs makes
it more convenient.
The same is true of the other specialized folders. My Music
includes a
"play" and "Copy to CD" command, for
instance.
In Windows Vista there are even more choices.
I recommend that people stick to the default arrangement
because that's
what Windows expects. There's nothing wrong with what you
seem to be
doing (You'd be better off not deleting windows folders just
because you
don't use them) but you're making things more difficult then
necessary.
Filelib (File library) is a special file created by some
program you're
using-maybe Real Player or AIM. Don't delete it. In general,
it's a bad
idea to delete any file you don't understand.
Happy Thanksgiving to all.
