PCWorks: "Common Files" directory

Hello again,

In the Program Files directory, there is a folder called
Common Files. In
there I have seven folders: Adobe, Atomica Shared, Designer,
Microsoft Shared,
MSSoap, speechengines, and System. Question: What is this
Common Files folder
