Just buy a 2nd HD and use both in your system... Do you know
how to install 
a HD?  If not you can go someplace like BestBuy and have
them do it...   I 
have a 300gb in my computer now with a 120gb...  If you can
uninstall 
programs from C: drive  then reinstall programs into your
new HD then that 
would solve your problems...  Some programs you can just
move over, others 
you must uninstall then reinstall...

As to recommendations, I've used several manufacturers and
only ever had a 
HD die on me once in over 15 years of owning a computer so
to me they are 
all pretty safe...
