I don't appear to be getting email from the list for some
reason. I found this in the archives so I'm replying to
it.
Donna, the extra 4 pins are 1 black ground, 1 orange 3.3v
line,
1 red 5v line and 1 yellow 12v line.
Most 24-pin PSU's have what's called a "20+4-pin"
connector
which means it's a 24-pin connector with the new 4-pin area
removable. If they don't, sometimes they can still be used
on
a 20-pin mobo if there is no "overhang" clearance
issue with
the new 4-pins. A 20-pin PSU can be used on a 24-pin ATX
mobo
if an adapter is used. The adapter simply takes these new
4
wires and wires them into their respective areas on the
20-pin
end.

Some motherboards comes with 20 Pins power connector and
some
comes with 24 pins. What are the differences? I notice that
Motherboards with 24 pins can also work with a 20 pins SMPS.
Will this harm the motherboards in the long run? What are
the
extra 4 pins power used for?
