I don't know why your computer crashes when you try to
associate txt files
with Wordpad. That's strange. I can't remember the last
time I had a
computer actually crash.
You could always do a sendto link to Wordpad. That might be
a little faster
than open with. All you have to do is create a shortcut to
Wordpad and then
put it in your Documents and Setting/(your user name)/Sendto
folder. It
will then appear in your right click sendto menu.

folders")
Along these same lines, but not quite...
The problem that bugs me the most is that all of my .txt
files insist on
opening up in Word, now that I've installed it. I was
perfectly happy
having my simple .txt files opening with WordPad. I've
tried to change the
association back to WordPad, but my computer crashes when I
set this
association until I let it have it's way and change the
association for
.txt files back to Word!
Of course, I CAN open them with WordPad by using "open
with" and waiting
for the whole list to display, or from within WordPad. I
only installed MS
Office (parts of it) because most of the world insists upon
it. WordPerfect never caused such a problem for me.
Word takes a long time to open on my machine, and uses a LOT
of resources
that Win98 doesn't seem to want to release when I close it.
Therefore I
have to either jump through the hoops (remembering to open
through WordPad)
or reboot the computer to get the resources back.
I guess one can't have everything?
