breakage,
since AIX and Linux are very unlikely to have BSD stdio...

I think the nature of stdio is not relevant.  PerlIO is very
buggy; in
particular, it does a spurious seek() on "almost any
call".  This may
have obscured a bug in my implementation.

I suppose the code I proposed should have been wrapped into
something like

  if (sysseek FH, tell FH) {	   # It may have been a pipe...
    ... # Do the magic dup()ing
  }

You know, a zip file of all your saved-away fixes over the

be a really good thing to have.
