Hi Gavin,
Just tried installing IO::Compress::Base via the cpan
commandline, and I hit
the same issue as you did. It downloaded 2.005, even though
search.cpan has
2.006.
I uploaded 2.006 on Saturday, so I would have expected the
change to have
made it to all the mirrors by now. Anyone know if there is a
problem with
the CPAN mirrors?
Paul

Subject: Version Discrepancy in 02packages.details.txt.gz
Hi there;
I'm not sure who you contact about bugs with CPAN but this
is the only email
address I could find on the site.
I had been having issues installing the latest version of
IO::Compress::Base
using the cpan command line tool and figured out that it was
be cause there
is a version discrepancy in the
http://www.cpan.org/modules/02packages.details.txt.gz
file.
It lists the latest version as being:
IO::Compress::Base 2.005
P/PM/PMQS/IO-Compress-Base-2.005.tar.gz
However the actual latest version cpan is:
http://search.cpan.org/~pmqs/IO-Compress-Base-2.006/
This was causing issues as IO::Compress:Base 2.006 is a
requirement for
IO::Compress::Zlib 2.006 which is listed correctly in
02packages.details.txt.gz and was uploaded on the same day
as
IO::Compress:Base 2.006.
I'm assuming that the package details file is auto generated
but it seems to
have missed this upload?
Cheers
