Thread: How to write "@" via FORMAT

How to write "@" via FORMAT
country flaguser name
United States
2007-09-21 05:01:36

I am trying to print a string using FORMATs that itself contains

format mail_id
>>>>>>>> enters the building ####
$user, $time
.

1st corresponds to user
2nd is part of message string it self
3rd corresponds to time

Here the problem is how can I print "" symbols which is part of
string at the output Or how can I print special char using FORMATs

I tried various options like
>>>>>>>> enters the building ####
>>>>>>>> enters the building '' ####
>>>>>>>> enters the building "" ####

CGI question

I successfully converted my first program to a CGI-friendly version.
However I have a question. My program creates a hash that takes about 7
seconds to generate. Is there a way to have my Perl program constantly
'running' on the webserver so that the hash table only has to be generated
when it is first started on the server? And then have it just sleep until
a request from the web comes in?

Thanks,
Ryan

The simplest way I can think of is to give '' as a term to be formatted:

format mail_id =
>>>>>>>>>>>; enters the building ####
$user, '', $time
.

But why are you still using ancient formats?

Look at Text::Reform from the CPAN. Like formats, but done right.

Hello Randal,

Thanks for the info. Text::Reform is far better then FORMAT. I never
knew "FORMAT" is ancient. Since I am not from programming domain,
FORMAT one of the advance Perl feature for me.
