Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: compiz

When clicking "Enable" in the Desktop Effects
settings window, compiz is
successfully enabled but the confirmation window to keep it
enabled
never gets displayed. Eventually it times out and compiz is
disabled
again.

The following is printed to the terminal:

gtk-window-decorator: Could not acquire decoration manager
selection on screen 0 display ":0.0"
inotify_add_watch: No such file or directory

And then when compiz is automatically disabled:

Window manager warning: "" found in configuration
database is not a valid value for keybinding
"maximize"
Window manager warning: "" found in configuration
database is not a valid value for keybinding
"toggle_shaded"
