As mentioned previously here (a couple of months ago),
that's a
4096/4096 RSA key meant to demonstrate a point, a point
which was
regrettably lost on many of those who were in need of the
demonstration.

I guess I'll have to go look up that point and then also I
may also find
there, an indication as to why that key was used to sign
your last
message; one that you uncharacteristically felt inclined to
sign. Why
did you sign it anyway? I'm curious.

One of many it would seem.

I'm an old member who left for a long period of time,
returned, had to
catch up as best as possible. Read some interesting threads

Primarily? Because I was sitting beside Ron Rivest, and it
seemed
sacrilegious not to RSA-sign a message when sitting beside
Ron.

There are other reasons, but the point behind them will be
much more
meaningful if discovered rather than told.

One can discover them if not too busy tilting at OpenPGP,
RFC 2440, windmills.

As a hint, the subject was "GPG or PGP" (or vice
versa) and the relevant
post was around the 10th of January.

Pretty good hint, yes. The same thread with the subject
slightly
modified and being "Re: GPG or PGP?.", with
initial post on Mon, 9 Jan
2006 13:34:11 +0100, and then the one on Mon, 9 Jan 2006
18:46:09 +0100,
where for the first time is used the term
"entity", as to PGP
environment, and clearly explained in the context, obviously
denoting no
a derogatory meaning.

Pointless "demonstration of a point" relates to
and results from another
incomprehension of another context related to the use of key
servers,
personal web pages, and other ways of making public keys
accessible to
correspondents/readers.

And as mostly always till now, the resulting suicidal
self-injuring
chaos has been the effect of perfunctory and slovenly
reading and
similar writing in compulsive response to something which
actually was
not even understood.

It's not even a wrong tree but rather a whole smallish
woodlet, with
even wrong dogs too, most probably thinking they are cats,
mice or even
giraffes, in a word a higgledy-piggledy unseen, and nobody
can disengage
it, except perhaps the Authors, but all the chances are that
even they
cannot it, and even with a help of Signor Servantes.

Further hints would be: Sancho Pansa is the chubby and short
one, and
Don Quixot is the skinny and long one, wearing the stylish
portable
lavabo as a helmet.

In another thread, John Moore asked Mica:

> Would You consider it 'intrinsic' for the Mouse to
"play" with the
> Cat?

I sit here and contemplate if that is a question that really
applies.
However, unfortunately, the situation is being treated as
such which
makes the whole thing rather futile and it's now confusing,
which
further adds to the futility of it all.

Anyway, we usually share with each other our technical
knowledge, our
interpretation of it, and last but not least, though far
from
insignificant, our basic person. That thread has explored
and brought to
light, all three aspects.

Cats playing with mice may apply to technical data. Same
perhaps for
some of the interpretation. However, the disparity ends
there and the
field now becomes very level and all too often the Cat and
mouse roles
are *reversed*. Unfortunately, we all too often think and
assume that a
lot of technical knowledge and or credentials makes the
other two
aspects equally worthy of respect or credit, but actually,
no. It
doesn't necessarily follow.

Agreed, which is why I'm going to make the point explicit
before much
longer. However, I need to talk to a couple of people
first.

There's a difference between education and publication,
though. This is
not meant to be a forum for people to post cold clinical
facts and
observations. If that's what people want, I recommend
reading the
Proceedings of Fast Software Encryption.

This is meant to be a place to learn, a place for education.
 And that
means that in the interests of pedagogy, some things are
permissible
which wouldn't be otherwise. A demonstration of a point
can often lead
to better understanding than simply saying "here,
understand this"; and
sometimes, the nature of the thing being demonstrated
demands an amount
of subtlety.

But subtlety must never become an excuse for pointing and
laughing, or
saying "look at how smart we are". That's
childish and boorish, and
every reasonable person will have absolutely none of it.
