Hi
I've been referred to this particular site http://www.elock.com/deskseal.html
which promises some digital signing etc.. [part of
http://www.elock.com/default.asp site]
Having know this group for a while I have begun to distrust anything
that is NOT PGP or GPG
I checked some files signed with this product with PGP Ckt, but PGP
Ckt 6.... does NOT seem to recognize this
Could some kind soul here tell me
(a) is this product http://www.elock.com/deskseal.html, GPG compliant
/or a GPG variant ? [part of http://www.elock.com/default.asp site]
and
(b) IF this IS GPG compliant which are the easiest front ends to use
under GPG [win XP machines]
Thanks in advance
regards
maniams

For the most part, it's standardized protocols and time tested ciphers
that we're most concerned with.

The website is very clear about it supporting PKCS#7. The 1.9 branch of
GnuPG should be able to deal with the files the application generates,
as will any other PKCS#7 application (ie, iSafeguard Security Suite for
Windows at http://www.mxcsoft.com/).

Compliant or variant? Neither.
It would appear that the incompatibility arises from Deskseal using X.509 and
not OpenPGP. X.509 and OpenPGP are similar but incompatible encrytion standards.
> (b) IF this IS GPG compliant which are the easiest front ends to use

Well, it's not compliant /yet/*. But the main front-ends for GnuPG on Windows
systems are:
GPGshell
and
WinPT
- -John
[*] X.509 support is being built in to GnuPG 1.9, the development precursor to
GPG2. But I doubt it's ready for production use, and it certainly isn't Windows
compatible at this point.

Unfortunately, they all appear to be very, very far below what I'd
consider acceptable in a user interface. Timo Schultz's WinPT is
probably the best of the bunch, but I wouldn't expect miracles.
You can download WinPT as part of the Gpg4Win project.

For the XP(ee), and other variants, of MS Windows(r) there are two GUI
inter faces so far, WinPT and GPGShell, both of them quite useful
although with more features in the better looking GPGShell. I use the
both, depending on circumstances. GPGShell is not of open source code,
which in this case is not much important. It is installed _after_ you
have installed GnuPG.

GPGShell: <http://www.jumaros.de/rsoft/index.html>.
