Unless you go to great lengths to do otherwise, subkeys will have the same
passphrase as the primary key they are attached to. If you really really
really want to do this (it's difficult and complicated) someone can provide
you with the URL of a site that explains it.

Yes. Recovation certificates invalidate any self-signatures attached to a key;
for both primary keys and subkeys, they are made by the secret part of the
primary key. So a recovation certificate can be generated and applied to a
subkey even if you don't have the secret part of the subkey anymore; what you
*do* need are the secret part of the primary key and the public part of the
subkey.
