Here's my case for email encryption......

I consider myself to be an average computer user; maybe
even a bit
below average. Anyway,I might be one of the few in this
group that
has use for _only_ email encryption. Here's why....for a
number of
years I have been involved in a local political
"situation". It is my
opinion that the opposition has direct access to the local
telephone
company (monolopy). The real possibility exists that they
are able to
read all of our sensitive communications. I tried PGP
(thanks to Mike
Daigle for all his help)but found that the builtin security

(encryption/decryption and signing abilities) and *really*
simple use
of OLE seemed to work just fine for me. Now that I know how
to use
OLE security, I intend to instruct the others in our local
group to
get a certificate and use OLE too.

Am I as secure as I think I am? Is this good enough for my
purposes?

Probably not, and probably not. I've been bouncing around
the crypto
world for over a decade and I've never even heard of
"OLE Security"
except in the context of security holes in Microsoft
products.
(Microsoft uses a technology called Object Linking and
Embedding to
let you embed an Excel spreadsheet in a Word document, and
other such
things.)

Googling for "OLE Security email" doesn't return
anything helpful.
Citeseer is also turning up a blank.

I have serious doubts that you're actually using what you
think
you're using.
