Help in configuration...
I'm down at Step 8 in this process, and I'm pulling my hair out.
I think the current problem is the "codeset" or "Windows Character
Encoding" that T-Bird is using... but I'm not sure.

Please read the following and see if you've seen something like this,
and know how I can fix it.

1) I installed ThunderBird 1.5.0.10 (20070221).
2) I installed Enigmail 0.94.3.
3) I installed GnuPG 1.4.7
4) I pointed Enigmail to ProgramFilesGNUGnuPGgpg.exe

4a) I created a GPG key-pair that a mac user
said didn't work.

I uninstalled GnuPG, when I couldn't figure out
how to install the IDEA.DLL and use it.

5) I installed WinPT 1.0rc2 (2nd release candidate),
from the download page at http://h.sourceforge.net/en/
which includes --
- WinPT Tray 0.7.96rc1
- GnuPG 1.2.1
Both versions were too old for current standards --
no one could read my generated keys.

5a) I created a GPG key-pair that a mac user
said STILL didn't work.

6) I installed WinPT 1.2.0 from
http://www.stud.uni-hannover.de/~twoaday/download.html
following the GPG4Win link nearer the bottom of the page
which includes --
- WinPT Tray 1.2.0
- GnuPG 1.4.6
- GPA 0.7.4 (rev 760)
- Sylpheed-Claw version 2.4.0
- more GPG tools...
I noticed that all of this was finally installed in one
location, under Program FilesGNUGnuPG and various
directories all under Program FilesGNUGnuPG , which
is how I really wanted things... all in one place.

7) I went back to www.gnupg.org, and installed GPG 1.4.7 .

Now everything was up-to-date, and current enough for
a working test right?

7a) I created a GPG key-pair that a mac user
said STILL didn't work. I finally caught on to a
problem that he said he had pointed out before,
but that I had missed in previous emails. I'll quote
the "error" that I never saw him report until "7a"
here --

That information told me that something in the "character set"
setup in T-Bird for "Plain Text" is not configured correctly
somehow someway.
Under T-Bird Options, I found something. When I'm sending
"Plain Text,"; there is a whole list of character encryption
sets, and that "Character Encoding" (a code that means
nothing to me, having started in PC/MS-DOS and Unix,
plain-text is plain-text) was set to "Western(ISO-8859-1)".
As I looked own the list of codes, I remembered getting a
warning from T-Bird about "Plain-text usually is UTF-8";, so
I set T-Bird so that the ONLY code set that T-Bird is
supposed to use is UTF-8.

I'm going to paste my latest public key (created today)
into this message, and I'll zip the ACS file (ASCII-Armored)
containing my public key, which will not be altered
by attaching it to an email.

Let me know if you see any problems, or new problems.

I have the same set up; no problems here. (knock on wood)

What type of key pair were you generating?
Are you also on a mac?
Do you have a gpg.conf file? If so, what is in it?

That is weird, there should be no spaces within an ASCII armored block.
Try generating a key from the command line rather than from within TB.

I've used ISO-8859-1, ISO-8859-15 and UTF-8 with no problems. I don't
think it is your character set.

Sorry, attachments are not allowed and are automatically stripped by the
forum software.
