msqlshow()

I am learning PHP and mysql; I am trying to find a way to
send a
command to the SQL server from PHP that would return
information about
the mySQL user account.
For instance if I connected to mySQL (using mysql_connect)
as 'John',
how would I be able to tell how many tables have been
created in John's

account?
