I had the same problem on IIS6 with php 5.2.3, that I got a
blank page and nothing more, but the phpinfo(); worked.
The cause wasn't the not-set doc_root, but after enabling
"show errors" I got an error message, that my
script used more than 8 MB... ;)
After enlarging memory it worked  )))
