So it would requires to compile each modules twice, which is
too much work.
This mean twice the workload, twice the space, twice the bug
fixes, twice the
QA and testing, we do not have the proper infrastructure.
Not to mention this
give reason to people to not port their software, as it work
fine on 2.4. 

So I am not in favor of this.

If there is a problem with eric, you should report a bug on
the package so we
can fix it. I have uploaded python 2.5 at the beggining of
the cooker cycle to
detect such problems.

For your own packaged software, well, indeed, that's a
problem. I can only
suggest to do a rpm per distribution as most 3rd party
vendors like plf does.
This is the saner solution for the moment, and we have
various macros that ease
the writing of spec file.

Regarding zope, well, python 2.5 was in preparation since
one year, and was out
since more than 6 months when 2007.1 was released, so I
think that zope could
have been tested on 2.5 in time. With proper regression
testing suit, this
could be done quite quickly ( even if zope is a big piece of
code, so writing
test is not easy )

2007 Spring offers Python 2.5 only.
Not only does this break contrib packages like eric (which I
was able to fix with a dirty symlink orgy) and my own
packaged software, but also makes ZOPE unuseable ("Also
Python 2.5 is unsupported (and not working)."):

This is nasty and IMHO not acceptable for a minor version
change. Python 2.4 should at least be avaiable as an
optional ("python2.4") package.
