How to manually transform a page by Padma?

I have created a local html file in Chanakya font (hindi/
devnagari) as
follows:

<html><head><title>none</title></
head>
<body><font face="Chanakya">
·¤æÇüU ÅUæ§üÂ
·ýðçÇUÅU ·¤æÇüU Ù¢ÕÚU
·¤æÇüU Âýæ#·¤ÚUÌæ ·¤æ Ùæ×
â׿ç# ÌæÚUè¹
</font>
</body>
</html>

when I move this file say chankaya.html into my firefox tab,
it shows

U U UU
U ٢U U
#U #
U

1. Why is automatic transformation not taking place?

2. How to force-transform it?

3. this is a local file on my hard disk, so I can't
associate any url/
site name with it (no www.xxxx.com). What should I do and
what should I
for such files in the padma options window to automatically
transform
any particular file on my harddisk?

any other tips.

has some urgency. a quick response will be highly
appreciated.

thanks & regards.

Automatic transform works by examining URL's. The main
reason for this
is not to slow down loading of pages that Padma does not
know how to
process. You can use the manual transformer here - select
the text,
bring up the context menu (right click typically), and click
on
Transform to Unicode.

Thanks,
Nagarjuna

thanks, Nagarjuna for the quick response.

just clicking right click on the page bring right click menu
in which no
padma related option is there.

so I selected the entire text of the page, and then selected
"Transform
to Unicode".

Nothing happened.

Is something wrong in the html that I cooked up manually.
attaching the
file there for your analysis.

if attachments are not allowed, then the html code is in the
previous
message quoted below.

Kindly have a look at it and advise me why this code is not
triggering
the manual transform to unicode.

thanks and regards.

Not sure what are doing wrong. I saved your HTML locally and
after
selecting the transfrom to unicode option, here is what I
have -

कार्ड टाईप क्रेडिट
कार्ड नंबर कार्ड
प्राप्तकरता का नाम
समाप्ति तारीख

Thanks

I did the same thing as Nagarjuna. Padma is transforming the
text in the HTML.

Rawat which version of Padma are you using ?

Thanks

Can you see if there is anything in the Javascript console
when the
manual transform did not work (Tools->Error Console)?

Will do in a later release.

I think the problem is related to the selection of
encoding.
If the Unicode encoding was selected as default, Padma won't
work in
manual mode. In Auto mode, however the fix will be applied.

From his initial mail, the text was shown in Unicode Junk ,
instead of
western Junk !
Nothing related to Padma and Firefox ! Not a bug...
[I couldn't post the mail to the mailing list, but already
send to
Mr.Rawat directly]
If this observation is correct please send this to the
mailing list, so
that any others can make use of the trick !

Regards
Padma

Padma converts proprietary formats to Unicode: if the text
is Unicode
encoded there is *nothing* to do, it is already Unicode.

There might be value in making the user aware of it - doing
that
within the confines of a browser is rather difficult. It has
to be
balanced against usage where user selects both unicode and
non-unicode
text for transform at the same time. No one wants to see an
error
message in the latter case.

Thanks,
Nagarjuna

Sorry if my tone came across as dismissive as I fully
understand your
point about how cryptic Padma is. If I were working full
time on this,
I would pay a lot more attention to such details. Almost all
of the
work on Padma is done in my spare time, so I have focused
on
attributes that I think made the software valuable. In my
mind these
are making the software robust and adding support for as
many fonts as
possible. For the kind of things that you have run into, I
think that
as long as the code is solid the community will be able to
help you
find the issue (as has happened here).

As always, it is a question of priorities and I think we
disagree on
what they should be. I will be glad to accept any code
contributions
that can help make Padma less cryptic to the users (among
other
things).

Thanks
Nagarjuna
