Pagestream vs Scribus

Hi all,

Just thought I'd post this comparison between Scribus and
Pagestream blurb.
Just for giggles I gave Scribus (freeware on Linux) a shot.
Not in depth, but
enough to give I feel for how it works. Scribus reminded me
of Pagesetter I.
To enter text you had to create a textbox, then click on the
menubar to enter
the text entry mode which opened a separate window in which
entered and
formatted text, just like Pagesetter 1. You cannot just
click and type any
place in the open document as you can with Pagestream.

My only beef with Pagestream 5.0.3.4 (Windows), is that
everytime I backspace
in a text frame, the cursor goes back two places. I must be
the only one with
this problem because I have not seem any other complaining
about it. Any
ideas of why that may be happening?

Really, Richard? Since when you are on line?

This is dated 4 September 2006:

Now it deletes two

Since then all misfortune has happened to Deron and his
gang.

So be patient, as I am. I only do a delete instead of a
backspace. And
not only in PGS .

G'day Richard E. Crislip,

On 20/01/2007, on the subject of "[PageStreamSupport]
Pagestream vs
Scribus", you spoke thus:

Yes, I get caught out with this each time. I have been
using the Win
version for a month or so now (still use the Amiga version
much more and
still awaiting a stable OS X version!). I have found a
number of minor
"quirks" in the Win version like this.

I've got a quick question about Scribus: last time I checked
it there appeared
to be no way to format just some of the text in a frame
(e.g., italize a
single word). It is possible that there was a way and that I
just couldn't
figure it out. But in any case, was this an issue in the
version of Scribus
you used? (Just curious, really, I never understood the
limitation but never
found the time to ask any Scribus folks about it to see if
the limitation was
real or in my head.)
