HP Printers and Amiga OS4.0-Final Update

Don't panic if your printing from Pagestream to HP printers
has 
broken with Final Update. Apparently, there have been bugs
in the 
Deskjet drivers for years (back to Workbench 2.x), but the
Final 
Update is significantly faster than Update 4 and is showing
the bugs 
up. It may also affect Laserjets not using Postscript.

The faster speed allows the driver to 'overtype' some of the
printer 
commands which results in the scrambled printing. You might
ask why 
it does not affect any other programs. Well, it does. All of
them as 
far as I can tell. Only mono text seems safe.

The good news is that replacement drivers without the
problem have 
been produced. The bad news is that they are not available
beyond the 
beta testers ATM.

I havn't tried Turbotext to overcome the problem, yet. I
will 
probably wait until the new OS4.0 drivers are out.

Right now, I can't get Postscript printing working from PgS
in
OS4 either.

The good news with Final Update is that PPC PgS works for me
now. The
bad news, is that most printing isn't working for me since
moving on
from update 4.

(Konica-Minolta Postscript color laser, hooked up to the
router via
ethernet with a static address.)

Odd thing is. . .  I just got a beautiful hi-res color
printout from
Multiview, and the only printer I have in Workbench is the
OS4
Postscript driver. Multiview -> Open picture -> Hit
"Print" with mouse
-> Beautiful print out. But I can't get anything to come
out of
ImageFX or PgS.

In PgS I tell it to print to Postscript. I've chosen the PPD
that came
on the printer CD (I've tried using the '98, XP and Linux
PPD's and
none of them make a difference here.) Print setup is set in
PgS to
print to Device and lpr.device.

Any suggestions?

Glad to hear the comment about speed. I noticed that
PageStream via TurboPrint
was much faster under Update 4 than it was under Update 3.
So with Final >>
Update4, the news gets better -- speedwise.
