If your meaning is that companies that make sound cards
don't have Vista
drivers for them, the interesting thing here is that in the
big picture
Vista is supposed to make such third-party drivers less
necessary. It
provides a broader array of on-board services for devices
like those,
making separate drivers unnecessary or at least simpler.

However, that's probably moot at the present moment. If the
built-in
Vista services are unseen by or incompatible with your sound
card or
whatever else, then you could have problems.

Vista may provide multimedia services, but this is
immaterial to needing
drivers and the lack of drivers (or stable drivers) right
now is an issue for
anyone wanting to use Vista. Vista's design actually
requires that more sound
drivers be developed because you can't provide an industry
standard chip and
driver (like AC'97) -- to satisfy Vista's DRM requirements
it must be
individually detectable and disable-able. I don't have links
handy but
googling on this should provide the relevant information.

The sound card can't see the Vista services, it's the other
way around. And
the mediator is the driver (see above).

However, aside from possibly printer drivers, Vista driver
issues are not
really a PageStream support problem. I'm not faulting people
for wanting to
help -- we have a very friendly community -- but I for one
would prefer the
list traffic to stay PageStream focused and Vista support
issues could easily
dwarf everything else.
