Why I love PageStream!

While I realize that my usages don't exactly represent a
broad audience they
do serve to demonstrate how incredibly flexible PageStream
is. I recently
started studying Sumerian and of course one of the first
things I wanted to
do was typeset it. Obtaining a font is working out to be an
issue unto
itself, but even with a font how on earth would I enter the
signs?

Although using ctrl-d and typing in the unicode sequence
works that is not a
very functional answer. Enter PageStream scripting with
Python. An elementary
input box is trivial where signs are entered by name, hit
return and the
signs are inserted at the current cursor position.

Very simple to write -- more time was spent taking the
unicode mapping
information and massaging it into a Python dictionary than
in constructing 24
lines of code. Granted there are some additional niceties I
want to add that
will take more time to develop, but I can already typeset
Sumerian in
cuneiform.

So Tim, you found your god of writing in PGS and Nabu
(Nabukadnezar).
(See Mesopotamia on Wikipedia (English version), I was
looking for
Sumerian language)

A very interesting way of using PGS!!

An interesting way of putting it, and yes. The tweaking is
more work and I
found a broken script command :( [yes, bug report
submitted]

As a long time lover of scripts and languages it warms the
cockles of my heart
to be able to display and edit cuneiform. Now back to
hitting the books,
which is what I should be doing rather than playing with PgS
scripting
