Not necessarily surprising. It may depend on how the pdf
application
uses the clipboard. It may be picking up header information
as well
regardless of the size of the excerpt. The unneeded styles
in PageStream
are harmless enough. You can hide them with one of the
buttons on the
Format Styles (or whatever it's called) palette. (However,
on Windows
I've experienced some difficulties in selecting styles from
the palette
when Hide Unused is in effect. If I remember correctly, the
list is
difficult to scroll through and you need to be sure the
style you want
is well above the bottom of the visible list when you click
on it.)
I suppose the reason that some applications are designed to
use the
clipboard that way is that you might be copying to another
document of
the same type and which needs the definitions.
I was thinking the other day that it might be nice to have
some kind of
"clean styles" function in PageStream. Since it
knows what styles aren't
being used in a document (because you can hide them), it
should be
possible to automatically delete unused style definitions
from a document.
The drawback is that there could be styles that /you've/
defined, and
just haven't used yet, that would get deleted as well. You'd
want to
wait until you were confident that the document is in its
final form
before cleaning the list.
Alternatively, the function could display a check list of
unused styles
and you would uncheck those you don't want deleted.
But having PageStream somehow prevent unneeded styles from
being copied
into a document is probably impractical. There are so many
applications
out there which might include styles automatically that
there would
always be some that would slip through the cracks.
